I was the lead writer on this article, joining two other reporters in Washington. We interviewed members of congress, the director of the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian and roughly 10 other experts to tell the true story of the Indian Removal period. 'Thank you can't pay them back': Warrior Flight brings Cherokee veterans to Washington
by addison kliewer, gaylord news
This was the first story I wrote while living in Washington, as well as the first tribal story I had written. I joined two broadcast reporters in telling the story of the 10 Cherokee veterans who came to Washington as part of the sixth annual war flight. In the reporting team, my job was to write the print story, interview sources and take still photographs of the group. This was printed in the Tulsa World and Cherokee Pheonix, as well as other tribal and city newspapers across Oklahoma.
